André set to win the hearts of Britain

Following his conquest of Australia, André Rieu is set to win the hearts of Britain. His album “Forever Vienna” has soared to No.2 in the UK Album Charts this week, ahead of Lady Gaga and way ahead of Susan Boyle. He will tour the UK later this year and will also be touring South Africa for the first time in May, following a promotional visit in March. The world just cannot get enough of André.

PS: he still considers Australia his second home!

TWO NEW DVDs from ANDRÉ

My friends! I’m so thrilled to tell you of two DVD releases this month. Hopeless romantic that I am, I’ve put together for you a 5-DVD set of some of the most romantic music I’ve performed with my orchestra. It’s called “Be My Love”.
And direct from Maastricht in July this year is the DVD “Live in Maastricht – 3” full of fun and more than a few surprises!

They’ll both be available in September, so look out for them!

André Rieu’s surprise gift!

When Sydney Grandmother Kate Young heard that the ‘King Of The Waltz’ André Rieu was going to be interviewed in-studio on Alan Jones program on 2GB last month, she wrote to Alan asking him to pass on her thanks to André for his beautiful music.

As a young girl at the Brigidine Convent in Randwick, she had studied violin for years, achieving honours and credits, all with the dream of, one day, becoming a concert violinist.

Unfortunately this dream had to take a back seat. Sadly, and with much hesitation, Kate had to sell her violin during the early 80's when her husband was laid off from work. It was Christmas, her children were very little and her new family desperately needed the money.

So touched was André by Kate’s story, that he instantly responded to Alan “I have tears in my eyes. Having to sell your violin to buy things for your kids? I am giving this lady a violin”.

After much deliberation by the musical maestro over the make and type of violin, Kate was today presented with a brand new Otto Jos. Klier violin, live on-air on Breakfast With Alan Jones (873 AM). Perfect for an advanced student, the violin is made from aged Bosnian maple and Austrian mountain spruce.

Currently in San Francisco in the middle of a US tour, André Rieu also phoned into the show to speak with Kate and Alan.

When Kate thanked him for the generous gift, his response was simple, “I only hope that this brings you happiness and joy, no one should be without music. Of course, now you will need to practice every day, I will be checking up on your progress when I come back to Sydney later this year!” he added with a laugh.

André Rieu will return to Australia this year for concerts October 15 – 31.

USA & CANADA 2009

André and his Johann Strauss Orchestra are currently in the middle of a huge 35 city tour across North America. They are filling the nights with breath-taking music from Toronto to Sandiego.

They will then travel back to Europe for concert dates throughout July, August and September before heading back to Australia for their October ARENA TOUR!

Australia’s best selling artist André Rieu is returning to Australia in just a few weeks for a special Mother’s Day visit to launch “Live In Australia” on the big screen in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand.

André will join host Richard Wilkins on the red carpet at Hoyts’ Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, Sydney on Sunday May 10th, before a screening of André’s hugely successful Australian concert that took place late last year.

However, it won’t only be those at the Moore Park cinemas that will get to see André. In an Australian-first, the red carpet arrival and André’s introduction to the broadcast will be beamed LIVE via satellite to participating Australian metro and regional cinemas. Those at cinemas nationwide can simultaneously watch as André arrives at Hoyts and gives his special message to all Australian fans, before they sit back and enjoy the concert on the big screen in high definition and 5.1 surround sound.

Tickets for the live event will include the live 30 minute red carpet telecast, the exclusive ‘The André Experience’ CD, souvenir program and the screening of the ‘Live In Australia” concert.

Tickets to the live Mother’s Day satellite screenings will be limited, particularly the VIP ‘Meet & Greet’ tickets at Sydney’s Hoyts Entertainment Quarter, however, encore screenings will be held across Australia following Mothers Day for a limited one week period, where fans can still receive the exclusive ‘The André Experience’ CD, souvenir program and screening.

Australia’s best-selling artist, ANDRÉ RIEU, broke all records at the end of last year when his DVD “Live in Australia”, rush-released from his enormously successful debut Australian tour, went 12 x Platinum in the space of 2 weeks. ANDRÉ RIEU GIVES HIS MUSIC TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF APPEAL

Following the unprecedented success of his debut Australian concert tour in November / December 2008 and his DVD “André Rieu Live in Australia”, which became the fastest selling music DVD in Australian history (and is still No. 1 on the ARIA Motorola DVD charts), André Rieu has created a song to raise money for Australians affected by recent disasters.

Moved by the terrible events that have overtaken Australia in the last two weeks, Andre felt compelled to assist in the best way he knew how, through his music. The single ‘Yours Forever’, an inspiring and calming instrumental piece, written and performed by André Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra, will go on sale Monday February 23rd, with all proceeds going to The Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009.

In anticipation of André's Sydney shows this week at ANZ Stadium, fans have seen him appear on Channel 7's Sunrise this morning, and chatting to iconic radio host Alan Jones.

With three huge concerts in Sydney to come, the anticipation from Sydney fans has reached an all time high!

His arrival into Melbourne airport on Thursday morning was documented on 7’s Sunrise, as well as the morning and evening news – and now Melbourne fans will be gathering very early to catch André on Tuesday morning to see him and his orchestra perform three songs live from Federation Square.

60 Minutes Interview

As his fans would already know, the 60 Minutes program have just broadcast a brilliant special on André which featured a rare glimpse of André at his home in Maastricht as well as a sneak peek of his World Stadium Tour and journalist Tara Brown was also treated to a private tour of his tranquil butterfly enclosure. The special focussed on the recent resurgence of ‘classical’ music in the mainstream, largely brought to the forefront by André and his refreshing attitude to this genre. It is clear that André’s passion for classical music is unquestioned, and the support from his wonderful fans plays a huge part in his ability to continue bringing this music to the world.

André landed in Brisbane on Wednesday evening!

He will be in Australia for a couple of days to promote his new CD, Waltzing Matilda which debuted at #2 on the ARIA album charts and has gone PLATINUM already!

Some dedicated fans were already waiting for André at the airport to give him a warm welcome with a lovely banner. André was delighted and thought it was very nice of them...It made him feel like he was coming home.

André is really looking forward to todays event at Reddacliff Place from 2:00pm.

After the signing session they will fly to Sydney where the promotional tour will continue!

Victorian fans need not wait until November to see their favourite ‘King Of The Waltz’. Acclaimed violinist and current international phenomena André Rieu is making a surprise trip to Melbourne, ahead of his extravaganza series of concerts later this year.

André will be making his only public appearance in Melbourne at Telstra Dome in less than a fortnight and will be performing two or three songs from his new album ‘Waltzing Matilda’. Open and free-of-charge to the public, this one-off event will act as a precursor to Andre’s much talked about Australian tour in November 2008.

A temporary stage will be set up at the Coventry End (Southern end) of the Stadium and seating will be opened at Levels 1 & 2, to cater for the convened crowd.

The man who has achieved the recent record of 50 platinum music awards in Australia has become too popular to hold a personal appearance in Queen Street Mall, with organisers fearing the venue will be too small to accommodate his many expected fans.

The ‘King Of The Waltz’, acclaimed violinist André Rieu was to make a surprise performance and signing session in Queen Street Mall on Friday May 9, however, due to the level of interest received from the public, organisers have had to relocate the appearance to;

REDDACLIFF PLACE
(between Treasury Casino and Brisbane Square)
Friday 9th May, 2.00pm – 4.30pm

Located at the top of the Queen Street Mall, the Casino will play backdrop to Andre Rieu and his special guest, Brisbane-girl Mirusia.

Brisbane Marketing will provide 1,000 chairs, however, seating will not be allocated or reserved so visitors are advised to arrive early to avoid missing out. As it is an outdoor event, precautions against the weather are also recommended.

Of this unexpected change of venue, Rob Sheaf, Group Product Manager of Sanity/Virgin/HMV, had this comment, “Andre Rieu is a true phenomenon, HMV is very proud to be able to assist in bringing Andre together with his fans in Brisbane. His appearance will undoubtedly be an unprecedented success”.

And the surprises keep coming. Making her first home-coming since being whisked away to perform as a soloist in Andre Rieu’s worldwide musical extravaganzas, the 23 year old Australian soprano Mirusia will join him to promote their new all-Australian album ‘Waltzing Matilda’, to be released April 26.

Sumptuously arranged for voice, solo violin, orchestra and choir, the album features songs such as Botany Bay, Waltzing Matilda, I Still Call Australia Home and Home Among the Gum Trees.

ACHIEVES SALES OF ONE MILLION UNITS IN A

André Rieu has certainly proved his title of ‘The King Of Waltz’ this week, dancing away with sales in excess of 1 million units, most of which occured in the past 12 months. As Universal Music Australia’s highest-selling artist in 2007, he has now also become the label’s highest-selling international artist of the past five years.

In all, André Rieu’s platinum accreditations for his DVDs amount to 49 – a record unequalled by any other artist.

Andre Rieu has cumulatively held the #1 DVD position for eighteen weeks over the last twelve months and for the last twelve weeks has never had less than six titles in the DVD top ten ARIA chart. In October 2007, he became the first artist in history to hold nine of the top ten DVD spots.

This million-unit week, Andre boasts fifteen DVD titles in the top 40. Just last week, sales of his DVDs accounted for a staggering 48% of total top 40 DVD sales.

André Rieu said “I awoke to a text message on my mobile phone from my friends at Universal Music in Australia announcing that sales of my recordings in their country had just crossed 1 million units. I have always felt a bond with Australia, something that was strengthened when I visited for the first time in September 2007. I was overwhelmed by the sincerity and enthusiasm of Australians, it is nourishing for any artist.”

Andre also had this message for his fans; “My success in Australia has touched me deeply. I make music to touch the souls of people as it’s a language we all can speak.
